The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The one-time leader was sentenced of orchestrating a military coup in the ninth month and sentenced more than over two decades in incarceration, but he was staying under home detention pending appeals.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after recent developments came to light.

This included trying to remove his tracking device and a summons to a demonstration that could "allow for a potential flight.

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the arrest, the magistrate said data from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the protest called by his offspring.

His child, Flávio, who works as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his followers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday evening.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on Friday: Will you battle for your homeland, or see it all from your smartphone there on your couch? I call on you to struggle with us."

He said the vigil would be so followers could "pray for his physical condition and for the restoration of democratic rule in our nation."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of Justice Moraes's ruling was the potential of his transfer to diplomatic missions near the home, considering that the investigations revealed a history of planning to request asylum through a consular facility", a statement said.

The judicial paperwork emphasizes that the American diplomatic mission in the national capital, the capital city, is situated around 8 miles from his dwelling.

Worldwide Consequences

The former president's legal troubles have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist American leader President Trump, leading him to implement a 50% tariff on goods coming from Brazil.

He is being held in a federal law enforcement building in Brasilia and will experience a detention review on the next day.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on last Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Top Court to authorize him to serve his whole jail sentence under house arrest, with digital surveillance.

They also requested that Bolsonaro be permitted to exit his dwelling for healthcare, saying he required frequent medical attention for respiratory ailments and other ailments.

Context of Sentencing

Bolsonaro was convicted of orchestrating a conspiracy aimed at keeping him in power after he failed to win the 2022 election to his political opponent, Lula.

Top judicial officials said that he was aware of a plot which encompassed plans to assassinate Lula and his VP candidate, Alckmin, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.

The scheme was prevented because it couldn't obtain the backing of the armed forces officials. Lula was took office without issue on January 1st, 2023.

But a week later, on 8 January, many his followers invaded and destroyed government buildings in the capital, Brasília.

The police intervened and around fifteen hundred individuals were taken into custody.

The justices found that the demonstrators had been encouraged by Bolsonaro whose scheme, they said, was for the Brazilian military to step in, reestablish control and bring him back to power.

At the time, his attorneys called the decades-long sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also barred from seeking elected position until 2060 - eight years after the completion of his term.

The former president called the trial a "witch hunt and said it was designed to prevent him participating in the next presidential race.
