Indianapolis Colts Battle Falcons in Berlin – Week 10 NFL Action

Guten tag, fussball enthusiasts. Wie gehts? Everything good I trust on this fine early start to the tenth week coming directly from Germany. The Olympiastadion in Berlin to be precise where at 8.30am CST/9.30am EST and 2.30pm GMT the mighty Colts (seven wins and two losses) take on the Atlanta Falcons (three wins and five losses). This marks the fifth matchup played on soil in Germany and the first in the capital city.

Pre-match Key Moments

As sparkly jackets go that is an real standout from Katarina Witt on the coin toss. A minor slip from the broadcast team there as we hear “which team got the coin flip?” from the presenter with an unfortunately hot mic.

Well, the Colts have won the toss and have chosen to get the ball first. Daniel Jones and company will be setting up shortly. Can the quarterback recover after a rough one in their last game?

Not to be outdone the vocalist performing the US national anthem has some of the largest shoulder pads you are bound to notice. Loving the sartorial choices today. We are almost underway after a choral number for the German anthem. Classy.

First Quarter Action

Scoreless at 13:30 in the first

Here we go! And we have an exciting start after Jonathan Taylor catches a screen pass, gains 15 yards on the outside to the right then loses the ball … only for his offensive lineman to recover the fumble with the ball retrieval. Indianapolis quickly moves into Atlanta's half.

Colts 0-0 Falcons 10:51, 1st quarter

And the excitement continues as the Indianapolis attempts a fourth-down conversion. The gamble fails to pay off as Josh Downs cannot reel in a fastball from the quarterback. Prior to the failed attempt the Falcons defender put a massive tackle on the Colts' tight end. Atlanta's defense started strong as they attempt to end their string of three losses. Following that, Sauce Gardner makes his first appearance!

Touchdown Updates

First score: Colts lead 6-0 at 8:36

Did Kyle Pitts just drop a touchdown? The tight end drops a clanger, he was wide open but the ball just slips through his grasp. That moment reflects the first round pick’s career to date.

So far, so disappointing but it only deteriorates for the Falcons as they cough the ball back to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard line. Michael Penix Jr is sacked and fumbles the football.

A nifty 22-yard run from Ashton Dulin sets Jonathan Taylor up to roll in for the score on the next snap. The placekicker skews the extra point wide. Mistake.

TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-7 Falcons 6:07, 1st quarter

The quarterback recovers from the turnover by marching his Falcons down the field for a touchdown. The wide receiver makes some chunky receptions to put them in the red zone then the seas part for Tyler Allgeier to run untouched into the end zone through the heart of the field for 13 yards. He completes the drive for a short scoring run of his own. The Falcons take the lead.

Other Tenth Week Games

And for afters, the jumbo package starting at 1 PM EST and 6 PM GMT (with home teams first) is as follows:

  • (5-4) Carolina Panthers v New Orleans Saints (1-8)

  • (5-3) Bears v New York Giants (2-7)

  • (3-5) Houston Texans v Jaguars (5-3)

  • (2-7) Miami Dolphins v Bills (6-2)

  • (4-4) Vikings v Baltimore Ravens (3-5)

  • (1-7) Jets v Cleveland Browns (2-6)

  • (6-2) Tampa Bay Buccaneers v New England Patriots (7-2)

What a feast. My pick for the best game is the Vikings and Ravens playing out the top contest of the day.
