Gavin Newsom States He Is Considering a Presidential Campaign for 2028

Gavin Newsom, a well-known member of the Democratic party, has revealed that he plans to determine whether to run for president in 2028 after the 2026 midterm elections conclude.

"Absolutely, I couldn't be truthful if I denied it," Newsom remarked when questioned about giving serious thought to a White House bid after the 2026 ballots. "I'd just be lying. And I can't do that."

Newsom's tenure as California's leader wraps up in January 2027, and he cannot run again. But, he emphasized that any determination is not imminent.

"Fate will determine that," he said.

Rising Profile as a Political Adversary

The California governor has stepped forward as a notable critic of the former president's team, using his digital presence and championing a ballot measure that would expand Democratic House seats in following GOP gerrymandering. This strategy has drawn criticism from adversaries.

Clash on Transportation

The former president's secretary of transportation, Sean Duffy, accused that the governor does not care about Californians in a recent interview on Fox News. Duffy disclosed a strategy to cut federal funds from the state and warned revoking the state's ability to grant commercial driver's licenses.

"I plan to withdraw $160m from the state," Duffy declared, after a recently reported tragic collision in the state involving an unauthorized commercial driver that resulted in loss of life and four injuries.

His administration highlighted that the national authorities had renewed the driver's employment on several occasions, which allowed him to receive a CDL under U.S. law.

The transportation secretary had previously indicated he was blocking $40 million from the state for failing to implement language proficiency rules for truck drivers.

Firm Rebuttal from the Governor's Office

"Ex-reality TV personality, now Secretary of Transportation, continues to misunderstand national statutes," the governor's team responded in a previous statement responding to Duffy's threats. "In the meantime, as opposed to this individual, we focus on reality: The state's commercial driver's license holders had a death rate nearly 40% lower than the U.S. average. The state of Texas – the single state with a larger number of CDL holders – has a rate markedly elevated than California. Data speaks for itself. This administration is dishonest."

Polling Data and Political Future

A this month's study found that a majority of the party and almost half of voters indicated that Newsom should run for the White House in 2028. Since Trump took office, Newsom's favorability has increased to an average of about one-third from previous levels, while his negative ratings has fallen from an mean of over 40% to current figures.

Some time ago, the governor commented while traveling several battleground states that he had "uncertainty" about his future for the next presidential election.

He noted his personal struggles, including being diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of five.

"The thought that a individual who had modest test scores, who continues to find reading challenging, who was often seated at the back – the idea that you would even throw that out is, in and of itself, remarkable," he stated. "Who the hell knows? I await who presents themselves in 2028 and who rises to the occasion. And that's the question for the voters."
